Don Whitman (1917–1998) was an American photographer who founded the Western Photography Guild (WPG) in Denver in 1947. His black-and-white images of muscular men, often posed outdoors in Colorado’s landscapes, helped define mid-century physique photography. Whitman’s work blended athleticism with subtle homoeroticism, contributing to queer visual culture during a time of censorship. His photographs remain collectible and are featured in the book Mountain Men: The Male Photography of Don Whitman.
