The ceramic sculpture “Heroe” (2024) by Cesc Abad explores irony, fragility, and the theatrical nature of the male figure. The work measures 32.5 x 9.5 x 9.5 cm and is preserved in excellent condition.

The composition presents a nude male character wearing a red cape and dark glasses. He parodies the image of a superhero, sitting on a large egg covered in splashes of red, yellow, and black. Across the surface, the word “HEROE” appears in bold golden letters. The choice of an egg as a pedestal creates a sharp contrast: it is fragile and symbolic of birth, yet it supports a supposed figure of strength.

The vivid yellow base, dotted with expressive paint strokes, and the teal ceramic elements holding the egg enhance the sculpture’s playful energy. Abad uses rough, almost childlike modeling, combined with vibrant colors, to echo the spirit of neo-expressionism and art brut. His approach aligns with artists such as Jonathan Meese or Grayson Perry, who use irony and exaggeration to challenge cultural icons.

In “Heroe,” strength and absurdity coexist. Abad dismantles the idea of the flawless, invincible hero and replaces it with a grotesque and comic figure. The work becomes a critique of masculinity, heroism, and the fragile stage on which these ideals perform.
