Arthur Campos is a vital voice in contemporary figurative art. In this compelling work, titled “Luis (Diptych),” the artist uses a two-panel format. Consequently, this choice deconstructs the human body in a modern way. By separating the limbs into distinct frames, Campos forces the viewer to see the anatomy as a landscape. Furthermore, this diptych format serves a dual purpose for the collector. It emphasizes the physical weight of the legs while highlighting the vulnerability of the hand. Therefore, the composition avoids traditional portraiture to focus on pure geometry.

The technique displayed in this work is an exhibition of high-level graphite draftsmanship. Specifically, Campos employs a rigorous layering process to achieve realistic skin textures. On the left panel, the tight folds of the knees show a mastery of volume. Similarly, the right panel captures the tension of veins and tendons in the forearm. The artist also uses the natural grain of the paper to create a neutral ground. As a result, this isolation ensures the focus remains entirely on the physical subject.
