About SOMBRA
SOMBRA, first published in 2004 by Merrell Publishers, is an unnumbered 180-page volume in which Colombian photographer Ruven Afanador explores the male nude and the expressive physicality of flamenco dancers through a highly theatrical black-and-white visual language.
The work is built around shadow, gesture and tension. Afanador uses dramatic contrast and choreographic posture to produce images that sit between fashion photography, performance and sculptural study. This copy is catalogued in Museum Discovery as a first edition, ISBN 1-85894-249-7.
